Hardware Identification

To identify devices in the inventory, activate hardware identification on the physical device. The device flashes in Wireless Workbench, allowing you to match components with their icons in the inventory.

Hardware identification is supported by the following devices, and requires the minimum firmware version specified in the table:

How to Identify a Networked Device

  1. Ensure that the device is discovered and visible in the inventory view of Wireless Workbench.
  2. Activate the hardware identification message on the hardware using the method listed in the table.
  3. The bar in front of the corresponding device in the inventory flashes yellow to confirm the component identity.
    Tip: Additional indications appear in the following areas of the Wireless Workbench interface:
    • Device Identified section of the bottom toolbar blinks yellow
    • The properties panel for the device being identified blinks yellow
    • The channel strip for the device being identified blinks yellow

Select Dismiss All to stop a hardware identification notification.

How to Identify a Portable Device

  1. Ensure that the device is powered on, linked to a rack device, and discovered/visible in the Inventory view of Wireless Workbench.
  2. Press and hold the SET button for 1 second to send the hardware identification message to Wireless Workbench.
  3. The bar in front of the corresponding device in the Inventory tab and the Device Identified section of the bottom toolbar flash yellow to confirm the component identity
  4. Select Dismiss All to stop a hardware identification notification.

Setting Preferences for Hardware Identification

You can disable hardware alerts or adjust the settings so that the device flashes a finite number of times.

Go to Preferences > General.
  • To disable hardware identification, clear the check box in the Hardware Identification section.
  • To limit the number of flashes, select the Flash option and set the number of flashes.
